- Scrape clean. Scrape up as much solid waste as remains, working inward from the least soiled areas to the most to prevent unnecessary spreading. Toss it in a disposable bag.
- Wet wipe. Using paper towels, cleaning cloths, or wipes, do a preliminary pass with hot water to break up anything that has set. This might take a few passes.
- Disinfect. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your disinfectant and leave the area wet for the time it specifies, often several minutes. If you use bleach, follow the proper procedure for mixing it with water.
- Rinse and let dry. Once the disinfectant has done its job, rinse the surface with clean water, wipe it, and let it dry.
